This is one of my favorites, you select the source (either a DVD you own or a movie you created by some other means) and you convert it to an iPhone/PC/Mac/iPad/Xbox360/Roku compatible file and enjoy! Sure, it does take quite a bit of time to convert, but for a guy like me who likes to keep the computer on for long periods of time, this definitively works..

Perian is a Must Have App. This preference pane allows you to add many functions to your Quicktime player….Perian is a FREE, open source QuickTime component thats adds native support for many popular video formats.

So what does all that mean to us as users…We can watch more files on or Macs! Simply stated Quick Time Player does not support all file types. Perian the add on preference pane allows these files to play! Listed below are some of these types of files.

Perian enables QuickTime application support for additional media:

  • File formats: AVI, DIVX, FLV, MKV, GVI, VP6, and VFW
  • Video types: MS-MPEG4 v1 & v2, DivX, 3ivx, H.264, Sorenson H.263, FLV/Sorenson Spark, FSV1, VP6, H263i, VP3, HuffYUV, FFVHuff, MPEG1 & MPEG2 Video, Fraps, Snow, NuppelVideo, Techsmith Screen Capture, DosBox Capture
  • Audio types: Windows Media Audio v1 & v2, Flash ADPCM, Xiph Vorbis (in Matroska), and MPEG Layer I & II Audio, True Audio, DTS Coherent Acoustics, Nellymoser ASAO
  • AVI support for AAC, AC3 Audio, H.264, MPEG4, VBR MP3 and more
  • Subtitle support for SSA/ASS, SRT, SAMI
